Irby Valkyries storm their way to 2nd place victory and land themselves in the indoor league finals on Sunday 17th March Victory for the ValkyriesLast Sunday saw the Valkyries take the indoor league by storm as they travelled to Toxteth for the Liverpool and District Cricket Competition indoor league, finishing with an impressive 5-3 record.
There were five other teams in attendance at the tournament (New Brighton, Old Xaverians, Rainford, Fleetwood Hesketh, and Bootle) that provided the team with challenges. However there were some impressive efforts on the pitch that allowed us to mitigate any attempts that opponents made to chase the 119 total runs that the team managed to score during the tournament, with us only facing losses to X, Y, and Z. The formidable run of form by the Valkyries across their matches landed them a second place finish in the tournament, securing them a spot at finals day in two weeks time. Which certainly is a fantastic performance when you look at the lack of numbers that the Valkyries had in their favour, turning up with six players and no subs. Training for the Valkyries takes place weekly at the Co-Op Academy in Bebington each Friday 7-8pm and we’re always looking for new members of all abilities. Our fixtures are coming in thick and fast, with the first being on 21st April at Southport and Birkdale. So if you want to get involved drop us a message or email, we’d love to have you!
