Saturday sees the return of the 1st XI to Mill Hill Road as we welcome Aston CC. With just four senior games remaining of the 2020 season and with the shortened format this year, we are striving for another strong performance from our senior players.
After last week's washout against Frodsham the 1st XI make one change, Ben Wilson coming in for Andy Leigh. With Captain Tom Crawford, still recovering from a nasty broken hand, sustained away at Wistaston a couple of weeks ago, Vice Captain Matt Garrett takes the reigns for the first time. The squad looks to be one of the strongest to date this season, with in form youngsters Marcus Barnes and Luke Poulston leading in the runs and wickets stakes so far. Gareth Jones will look to continue his fine run of form with the ball as he challenges Poulston as the leading wicket taker.
The full squad is as follows: Garrett (c), Barnes (wk), Poulston, Draycott, Lea, Jones, Newman, Rusbridge-Burns, Ehlen, Smith & Wilson
The 1st XI are unbeaten in their last four outings, with two victories and two draws. A battling win at home against Chester County Officers two weeks ago, along with a dominant victory against Tranmere Vics and two dogged and determined draws against Wistaston and Wirral.
Our opponents Aston are flying high in 3rd after a strong season thus far. An unusually poor result last week saw them fall to Westminster Park as they were skittled for just 38. Though looking deeper sees a truer reflection of their form and quality, with a resounding 6 wicket win against Old Parks and a stunning 126 run victory against Malpas in the two weeks prior. The Drapers have had their share of the runs so far this year, notching excellent scores in their victories so far, along with Allan Joseph who crunched 58 in their last outing. With the ball, Vinayak Rane and Lalit Patil have shared 30 wickets between them so far this season so will be ones to watch.
We're hoping for clear blue skies and fair temperatures come game day, but whatever the weather, you'll be welcomed along to Mill Hill Road. The bar will be open throughout the afternoon and long in to the evening.
See you on the boundaries edge...
